How to Surrender to Your Spiritual Calling

Identity & Purpose | 4 comments

In my 2nd Annual virtual gathering, The Power of Your Spiritual Calling, these were the most popular questions when the speakers were giving readings:

  • What is my calling?
  • I think I have x gift (fill in the blank). How do I know if that is my gift?
  • Is my calling x (a project that has a beginning and an end, like a book)?

How Do You Find Out What Your Spiritual Calling Is?

I can’t discover your spiritual calling for you… but I can help you discover it for yourself.

Here are 3 tips:

  1. Create a list or collage of things you love doing, that light you up.
  2. Go do those things!
  3. Pay attention to what shows up when you are lighting yourself up.

Most of us are very good at suppressing our desires and doing what needs to be done in order to survive. If you’re just surviving without lighting yourself up, you have no access to your calling. Every time you create opportunities to light yourself up, you connect to your calling and bring it closer to your awareness. Every time you catch yourself being lit up, you connect to your calling and bring it closer to your awareness. The more you use these 3 tips, the more energy you give to your calling, and the more energy your calling will give to you.

By the way, revel in the experience of being lit up! There is no faster path to your calling than enjoying that feeling!

How Do You Know If You’re Gifted At Something?

TRUST YOURSELF. BELIEVE IN YOURSELF. If you’re asking the question, the answer is yes. If you’ve been told over and over that you have a gift of healing, well, guess what… you have a gift of healing. When you second guess yourself, you move into more doubt and you lose that connection to your calling. What if you accepted all those confirmations you’ve had from yourself or other people… and either got some training or just started to practice using your gift? Hmmm… and what if you actually told people you have this gift?

A lot of times, it’s not that you don’t know what your calling is. It’s that you’re afraid everyone else will know! Why? Like most or probably all of us spiritual trailblazers, you were probably banished, executed and not treated too well to say the least, in this and other lifetimes. It isn’t always easy to declare who you are and be yourself when you have a history of being punished or killed for it. I love what one of our speakers, Marguerite Riglolioso, said about that in my online event… that it is safe now to be who we are. It isn’t always easy but it isn’t dangerous like it once was. It’s time to come out of the woodwork and let your spirit play. You might need the support of a mentor or spiritual guide to help you “come out” or start working with your gifts or deepen them but it is definitely time.

Is Your Calling To Write a Book or To Create a Series of Paintings or What?

In my experience, the finite projects are PART of your calling, or they are leading you into your calling, but not your actual calling. Your calling is something that grows and evolves as you do. It doesn’t have a beginning and ending, until you are done as a human being in this lifetime. It calls you and leads you, if you let it. I like to talk about your magic thread, which is like an invisible thread that connects the different elements of your calling together and to you. For me, that thread is singing. Singing has led me to everything good. It has always been a part of what I do, even in times when my business completely changed. I’ve gone from singing on stage and giving workshops to business coaching to spiritual mentoring and giving oracle readings and back to singing on stage. In every case, singing is part of it. What is your magic thread?

We all have our unique gifts. I’ve been saying that for years ever since I kept hearing it over and over from the indigenous elders and traditional teachers I would sit with.

Your calling is always wrapped up in the expression of those unique gifts. It’s a special blend of not just your gifts but YOU – your special qualities, your personality, and the things you’ve learned and experienced along the way. Your calling ALWAYS gives you energy. When you first let yourself express your calling (talk about it or play with it), you might have some nervous energy. That’s a good sign. You’ll also have excitement and other really positive feelings, especially if you let yourself play with it more and more.

Speaking of play… go ahead and PLAY!! We adults don’t play enough. When you play more, your creativity comes out, your passion can come out, and you connect more deeply to who you truly are.

If you’d like to play with the power of your spiritual calling, join us for the next live round of the Medicine Song Oracle Cards™ course. You’ll get live interactive teachings where we’re actually using the cards on the calls and using the teachings given. I won’t just share how to use them but how to tap into your spiritual calling, increase your intuition, find your voice and trust yourself. Class begins on Monday November 13, 2017. You can register or find out more here.

Got your own ideas or feedback about surrendering to your spiritual calling? Aha’s hitting you right now? Please share on the blog. I’d love to hear about it. (:

Love & Blessings,

Im a nurse by profession and believe that i have a gift of healing. I was once confused asking myself if nursing was really what i wanted. I became confused and uncomfortable. I later realised that I am at the right place. I began saying things to my patients that I didn’t know i knew. Some would ask me if I’m a priest and some would tell me that I have a gift. This is what makes me happy to make people feel better. Positive feedback from my patients and people around me made me realize what i doubted. Thank you so much for your post I’m going to do as u suggested. I’m letting go the doubts about myself.

Good morning my Sister in Christ.
I’m new here and I also think I need to know more about myself I need a mentor. To be honest I know I’m different in many ways. I love visiting the sick, helping people with their problems.
I’m a giver. At church I’m an Elder Sister. My husband is an Elder.
I need to know more about myself in Christ.

Hi Evodia. I am not a sister in Christ. I am a Nehiyaw Iswkew, a Cree woman. I can’t teach you what you’re seeking because I am not Christian. I walk a traditional First Nations path. I hope you find what you seek. Blessings, Brenda
