Freedom is within your soul
There’s really nowhere else to go
Gotta let yourself fall apart
So you can feel it in your heart
Love, nothing but love

— Lyrics from “Nothing But Love” by Brenda MacIntyre

When I was at the vigil, standing outside where my son and his friends were shot, we all had a chance to write something on a t-shirt taped to a pole. I didn’t know what to write, and I heard my son say to me Nothing But Love. I immediately wrote on the t-shirt #nothingbutlove, realizing it’s also a Universal Truth.

When you let yourself fall apart, you will begin to realize you truly are nothing but love.

We are made of Love. All kinds of emotions get to exist alongside that love but we are made of Love. By the way, those tears you cry? Those and the emotions you feel in grief are coming from the profound love you feel for whoever or whatever you have lost.

This song is all about falling apart, about the emotional outpouring and relief that is possible if you stop trying to hold your shit together and instead just let yourself fall apart and allow your life to fall apart.

The truth is, until we allow things to fall apart, a new way of being in the world can’t come together. It takes as long as it takes, so there is no need to rush or push yourself.

Please take your time. Love your way home to the true YOU.

If you are experiencing grief with trauma somehow involved (murder, suicide, shock or other trauma you already had), get support. If not, use your own judgment on whether you need extra support.

TRY THIS: Feel the Love that you are, just for 5 minutes. Set a timer so your ego-mind knows this will end quickly (change scares it, so you want to soothe your ego-mind) Trust that your spirit already knows how to do that. Get your mind out of it. Hold your hand to your heart. Breathe. Allow yourself to feel and express any feelings that show up. See if you can access the Love that flows through your veins. If it’s too painful or difficult to go there, get support.

Final thoughts: You truly are nothing but love. Everything else is temporary. The more you tap into the truth and experience of being Love, the more free you will feel to express and be who you are.

Hope this helps. Please feel welcome to share it with friends you know who are experiencing grief, trauma, loss or chronic pain.

Love & Blessings,

Brenda MacIntyre, Medicine Song Woman
