Music with a Message Series – Episode 3
I don’t want to go through this feeling again
Feels like another dead end
But what if I just need to stop along the way
Give myself the time to heal and feel again.
— Lyrics from “Everything I Need” by Brenda MacIntyre
When you feel stuck, overwhelmed, anxious, angry, sad or any other uncomfortable emotions, parts of you might poke at you, looking for reassurance or acknowledgement. Be here for yourself… ALL parts of you.
TRY THIS: Pay attention to your feelings. I don’t mean get caught up in them but allow them and acknowledge them. If you catch yourself trying to push them away, or getting caught up in them, just notice yourself doing that. Give yourself compassion and as much time as you need.
Final thoughts: You have everything you need, as in, you have inner resources you may not even realize you have. You also have access to people and outer resources that can help you, whether it’s online, in person or over the phone or text. Ask that deeper part of you – or the parts of you crying out for your attention – What do you need from me? How can I help? Listen with your whole being for the answer and truly be here for you.
Hope this helps. Please feel welcome to share it with friends you know who are experiencing grief, trauma, loss or chronic pain.
Love & Light,
Brenda MacIntyre, Medicine Song Woman
In Memory of Brenda MacIntyre’s son Quinn Taylor, this album features 2 songs inspired by Quinn’s trap music. The songs on this album span reggae, soft rap and indigenous hand drum singing, with Brenda’s usual soulful vocal flavour and a hint of funk and R&B.
Just like Brenda’s last 3 albums, this one is being created in ceremony, infused with specific intentions and emotional and healing energy, to help people to feel love, connection and joy even alongside grief, chronic pain, identity crisis or trauma.
