Letting Go of Expectations: How to Create What You Want #TruthbyBrenda

Here’s your 18th Medicine Song Oracle Cards™ reading, along with the audio clip of the medicine song that matches the card.

The cards and the songs from my Medicine Song CD interact with each other to amplify the energy and experience for you. The cards are based on the Ojibwe medicine wheel the way I was taught by indigenous traditional teachers, and my own Medicine Wheel of Success system, as well as the 13 Grandmother Moons of the lunar cycle and the 28 days of each Moon cycle.

Your 18th reading is based on the song “One of the Things”. Click on the audio player at the top of this week’s blog to hear the clip and meditate to the healing art while you read the message for the week.

The “One of the Things” Activity Card is from the North direction of the medicine wheel, representing Earthphysicalbodybusinessmoney and wisdom. Activity cards are always about taking some sort of action.

The song “One of the Things” is all about being lighthearted and playful about things going “wrong” or “not according to plan”, and also about the joy that can come from unexpected surprises.

Let me tell you something a bit personal that I’ve never told anyone except maybe my coaches…

Sometimes I’m afraid to set goals because I’m afraid they won’t happen. Can you imagine if I were to then go ahead and set goals from that emotional place? How is that going to work? Our beliefs can be kind of like intentions when it comes to our subconscious mind and the Universe. In other words, we can end up creating exactly what we don’t want, if we don’t align our beliefs and behaviours with what we DO want.

This is why all the stuff I said in last week’s blog post about year planning is so important: setting sacred space, reflecting, feeling, setting intentions.

For example, I had a VIP coaching session with business coach Andrea J. Lee of Wealthy Thought Leader, over the weekend on my birthday. But for me, the session began when I said yes a few days before. I set my intentions, did an oracle deck reading, sat with myself and really thought about and felt into what it is that I want to create in 2016. What kinds of experiences? How do I want to feel? What worked? What didn’t? What was fun and what wasn’t? I wrote out a rough plan for what I deeply desire, and then I highlighted what I needed Andrea’s help with.

Then, the biggest step of all…

Let go of expectations.

Once you set your intentions, dig into your deep desires, and formulate a plan, you can let go of expectations.

Now, I’m not saying to throw your plans or goals away. And it’s not like then you sit there and do nothing and “expect” everything amazing to be hand-delivered to you in exactly the package you’re looking for. There’s this beautiful harmony that happens between planning, letting go of expectations, and holding space for what you desire to show up however it is meant to show up. And as this is an Activity card, we are reminded that yes, we must take action to create what we desire.

Have a good look at this card above.

You can choose to tune into and focus on the courage and majesty of the lion (is that YOU? perhaps?) or the horse (or is that you?), the fire, the water, the rainbow, the storm. What do you choose? And you know what? Your rainbow might only come after a storm. Being the lion might mean that some people are afraid of you or don’t want to be in your world anymore. Having the horse as a spirit guide might mean you suddenly get an incredible message, or that hey, that’s one of your gifts – getting messages for people.

This card and song are all about being open to possibility. You can lay down your intentions and your plans, and then let it all go, take the inspired actions you are given or prompted to take, and see what shows up.

By the way, we can set all the intentions we want but we can’t control people or Nature. Situations we weren’t planning on are probably going to show up. Those situations might make things even better or they might trash our plans altogether. It’s how we respond to what shows up, and how WE show up, that creates our experience.

P.S. Don’t be so serious about your plans! Invite lightheartedness into all of your planning and I can guarantee you the ride will much smoother, less stressful and more fun.

Love & Blessings,

Brenda MacIntyre, Medicine Song Woman
